Cartridge Mechanical Seals
Engineered Single and Double Cartridge Sealing Solutions
Cartridge SealsCartridge mechanical seals are supplied as a complete, pre-assembled unit. They are designed to simplify installation, reduce setup variability, and improve consistency across a wide range of rotating equipment. With standardized designs, environmental control ports, and proven sealing arrangements, cartridge seals are often the most practical route to improved seal reliability and reduced maintenance risk. |
Cartridge Seals
Cartridge seals are complete, pre-assembled units designed to simplify installation, reduce setup errors, and improve sealing consistency.

Why choose a cartridge seal?
Compared with component seals, cartridge designs help reduce installation variables and improve repeatability across sites and teams.
Simplified InstallationGreatly simplified installation procedures reduce setup time and reduce the need for multiple separate component adjustments. |
Fewer Installation ErrorsIncreased reliability through consistent pre-set geometry and fewer opportunities for misalignment, incorrect setting, or damage during assembly. |
Inventory StandardizationStandardized seal families can consolidate inventory and simplify spares management across multiple assets and locations. |
Simplified Installation
Pre-assembled design reduces setup time and complexity.
Fewer Installation Errors
More consistent results with fewer adjustment points.
Inventory Standardization
Streamlines spares and reduces variety across assets.
Single and Double Cartridge Seals
Cartridge seals are available in single and double configurations. Both are typically offered in ANSI and ANSI+ (big bore) gland formats,
with environmental control ports for API seal support plans.
Single Cartridge SealsSingle cartridge seals use one set of sealing faces (rotary and stationary). They are commonly selected for general duties Typical features: broad equipment fit, optimized gland design, environmental control ports for flush and quench arrangements. |
Double Cartridge SealsDouble cartridge seals use two sets of faces and create a liquid or gas layer between the process media and atmosphere. Why specify a double seal:
|
Single Cartridge Seals
One set of faces for general duties. Broad equipment fit with ports for flush and quench arrangements.
Double Cartridge Seals
Two sets of faces with a barrier or buffer layer to reduce emissions and improve safety and seal life.
- Lower emissions
- Safer for hazardous media
- Better lubrication and cooling control
- Improved performance in difficult service
Cartridge Seal Families
AESSEAL® offers a wide range of cartridge seal designs. Below is a practical grouping of common families to help you navigate the options.
If you are unsure which group fits your duty, contact us and we will guide you.
Broad ServiceCURC, CDSA, SCUSI, CDFI, FIDC, CSSN, CDPN General duty cartridge seal families designed for wide equipment coverage. |
Monolithic Faces (incl. vacuum)DMSF, SMSS, SMSS23 Face designs selected for stability and demanding service conditions. |
Stationary DesignCKD, SISS, DISP Stationary arrangements that can suit specific equipment layouts and operating constraints. |
SlurryCVSD, CDPH, FGD Sealing solutions designed to cope with abrasive and clogging particulate. |
Viscous Fluids (no abrasives)CLIP, SPS (Fluidol) Selected for high viscosity services where flow and heat removal can be limiting factors. |
Food GradeCartridge Seal Solutions for Food & Beverage Hygienic design considerations, materials, and seal arrangements for food processes. |
Split SealsRDS, ISOS, Cinch Seal Split designs can reduce downtime by avoiding full equipment strip-down. |
Welded Metal BellowsWelded metal bellows designs Selected for demanding chemical and temperature service, and where eliminating sliding elastomers is beneficial. |
Mixer, Reactor & Agitator SealsMixer seal designs Designs suited to agitation duties and process equipment that introduces additional movement or vibration. |

Specialist Applications
Where equipment or duty conditions require a specific seal arrangement, we can identify the best-fit AESSEAL® design family and support plan.
Machine-Specific DesignsCartridge seals are available for a wide range of OEM pump and mixer designs, including: Sulzer Ahlstar (CKSA, CKDA) |
Oil, Gas & PetrochemicalDesigns suited to hazardous service and emissions control: CAPI-A Single Double seal arrangements may be specified to reduce emissions and improve safety for volatile or hazardous media. |
Gas Seals and Support PanelsGas seal options and support equipment are available for specialist duties, including: UDGS (Universal seal) |
Seal Support Systems (API Plans)Seal support plans are often the difference between acceptable seal life and repeated failure. |
Machine-Specific Designs
Sulzer Ahlstar (CKSA, CKDA), Richter PCK/SCK, Durco GP I & GP II, progressing cavity pumps (PCPS range) and more.
Oil, Gas & Petrochemical
CAPI-A Single and Dual options for hazardous service and emissions control.
Gas Seals and Panels
UDGS, GAS-03 panel, TURBO systems, STS steam turbine arrangements.
Seal Support Systems (API Plans)
We can recommend an API plan and hardware to control temperature, contamination, and lubrication at the faces.
Seal selection matters, avoid costly compromises
With the wide range of cartridge mechanical seal options available, choosing a less-than-optimal design can reduce reliability and increase lifecycle cost. Consult with an experienced seal specialist to confirm design features, materials, and support plan requirements for your specific duty.
