O-Rings & Hydraulic Seals
A wide range of O-ring styles and hydraulic sealing materials, selected for chemical compatibility, temperature capability, and wear resistance.

FDA O-Rings
FDA products are used in industries where food or consumables are present, including food and beverage, dairy, and pharmaceutical applications. We can help you select FDA-appropriate compounds and profiles that support hygiene requirements and operating conditions.
Materials at a Glance
Material selection depends on chemical exposure, temperature, pressure, abrasion risk, and whether the application is static or dynamic.
Below are common materials and where they are typically used.
Chemours Kalrez® (FFKM)Resists over 1,800 chemicals and offers high temperature stability comparable to PTFE (up to 327°C). Used in aggressive chemical processing, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and aerospace. |
Greene Tweed Chemraz®Excellent sealing performance in mixed aggressive chemicals, commonly specified for downhole service. Compounds available for improved resistance to rapid gas decompression and abrasion. |
Perlast® (FFKM)Perfluoroelastomer materials developed to provide enhanced functionality and proven field performance, supporting demanding sealing environments. |
Aflas®Known for resistance to petroleum products, steam, and phosphate-esters, useful in challenging industrial services. |
Viton® / FKMHigh heat resistance and broad chemical compatibility, with excellent aging and ozone resistance and very low gas permeability. |
EPR / EPDMGood resistance to hot water and steam, detergents, caustics, and many polar solvents. Not suitable for mineral oils and fuels. Peroxide-cured options support higher temperatures. |
Buna-N (NBR)Widely used with petroleum products, hydrocarbons, fuels, oils, and many hydraulic fluids. Poor resistance to sunlight, weathering, and ozone. Typical range: -40°F to +250°F. |
Teflon® Encapsulated O-RingsPTFE jacket provides chemical inertness, while a Viton® or silicone core provides resilience and energises the seal. Viton® and Teflon® are registered trademarks of Chemours Company. |
Hydraulic Seal ProfilesDifferent profiles suit different motion types, pressures, and sealing surfaces. We can help confirm the best profile for static, rotary, or reciprocating applications. |
Chemours Kalrez® (FFKM)
Resists 1,800+ chemicals, high temperature stability up to 327°C, used in aggressive services.
Greene Tweed Chemraz®
Excellent sealing in aggressive chemical mixes, often specified for downhole service.
Perlast® (FFKM)
Advanced polymer technology offering enhanced performance and proven field reliability.
Aflas®
Resistant to petroleum products, steam, and phosphate-esters.
Viton® / FKM
High heat and chemical resistance, low gas permeability, excellent aging and ozone resistance.
EPR / EPDM
Strong steam and caustic resistance, not suitable for mineral oils and fuels.
Buna-N (NBR)
Common for oils and fuels. Poor ozone resistance. Typical range: -40°F to +250°F.

Profile Notes for Dynamic Service
In dynamic applications, profile selection can be as important as material selection. Below are two common options and where they tend to fit best.
Quad RingsSeal with four contact surfaces when compressed. Common in reciprocating applications where they can reduce running and breakout friction and reduce the risk of twisting or rolling compared to O-rings. |
Square RingsStrong static sealing performance, but typically less suited to dynamic service than O-rings. Often used as energisers in cap seal assemblies. |
Quad Rings
Four sealing surfaces, often used in reciprocating applications to reduce friction and twisting risk.
Square Rings
Strong for static sealing, typically used in dynamic service as energisers in cap seal assemblies.
